Experiential Learning – Concept -Tall and Short -DWPS Kindergarten
DWPS Kindergarten expert teacher conducted activities for students to learn about tall and short. Students explored the wonderful world of trees, comparing their heights and using our observations to understand these concepts.
Learning by Doing Activities for Teaching Concept “Tall and Short” in DWPS Kindergarten:
Nature Walk:
We went on a nature walk in the school park and a nearby park. We encouraged the children to point out tall trees that touched the sky and short trees that looked like friendly bushes.
Standing Tall, Kneeling Short:
We played a fun game! The teacher said “tall trees” and the children stood on their tiptoes, reaching high. Then, the teacher said “short trees” and the children knelt down low.
Sorting by Height:
We collected different sized leaves or twigs (safely, with adult supervision) and sorted them into two piles: tall and short.
Learning Outcome:
The children were excited to identify tall trees with their high branches and short trees with their lower branches closer to the ground.
The game “Standing Tall, Kneeling Short” helped them connect the concept of tall and short with their own bodies.
Sorting the leaves or twigs reinforced the size difference visually and through touch.
Suggested Activities
We can build upon this learning by comparing the heights of different objects in the classroom, like chairs and tables.
We can also introduce the concept of “medium” by finding objects that fall between tall and short.
Reading books with pictures of tall and short objects can further solidify the concept.
LKG class students gained a foundational understanding of the concepts of tall and short. They learned to observe their surroundings and use their bodies to represent these size differences.
